Review:
My favorite movie of all time. It was a flawed work of Coppola and seeing the documentary Heart of Darkness has become even more compelling. Coppola is currently the king of Hollywood after the Baptism and GodfatherII and developed the ego necessary to even dare to try to make a film like Apocalypse Now. Through sheer arrogance, he went to the Philippines with a partial script, and thought that he did not know what he was doing when he got there. Just as Captain Willard felt that he did not know what to do when he entered Colonel Kurtz compound. And while Willard, he knew what he would do when he got there. It is such an American film, beautifully photographed, and the river is so great metaphor for the history and background of a masterpiece. What I like most about Apocalypse Now, is that it does not offer answers or conclusions. Therefore, due to the open endedness, this infuriated some viewers who like their films to be much more evident. This film defies category. Some call it a war movie, which is not quite sure it is a more personal study in humans. Best pic of a group of Vietnam, in my opinion, and if the viewer watches from the Vietnam war retelling of the first answers here. Coppola is hailed for his take on the war, which he delivers quite effectively with Gen.Corman and Lucas (Harrison Ford) and the Playmate Review Meeting bureaucracy. Audacity of Kilgore alone makes an unforgettable nature and dawn attack will always be Hollywood classic.It is almost surreal psychedelic cruise end, which allows the film is not available to everyone. It is very difficult to watch, but rewarding as well. I could offer their explanations for each scene, but it would be completely pointless. This film is the interpretation and contemplation, rather than going gratification.A a footnote, really, if your first time viewer Apocalypse Now, watch the original version first, Redux version, I think more to the hardcore fans and more curiosity than a new and improved version of the film
